De podiumkunsten krijgen net als de film- en tv-sector een taxshelter. Een fiscaal snoepje dat investeerders naar de sector moet lokken: bedrijven die investeren in podiumkunsten kunnen hun investering voor 310 procent fiscaal inbrengen.
Concreet houdt de taxshelter in dat Belgische én buitenlandse vennootschappen die in ons lang gevestigd zijn, kunnen rekenen op een fiscale aftrek van 310 procent voor de investeringen die ze doen in de betrokken productie. Ook internationale coproducties komen in aanmerking en maakten in het verleden al gretig gebruik van het systeem. “Zowel een circusvoorstelling als een opera kan op deze manier gefinancierd worden,” aldus Didier Reynders. Vooraf moet de aanvraag wel goedgekeurd worden door de Vlaamse cultuuradministratie.
Er zijn natuurlijk ook bedenkingen bij dit systeem. In de eerste plaats wordt gevreesd dat de taxshelter in de plaats komt van de cultuursubsidies. Maar ook ongelijkheid in de sector is een risico: de kans is reëel dat enkel de grote huizen en commercieel interessante producties de bedrijfsinvesteringen zullen aantrekken. Tot slot wordt geopperd dat deze taxshelter niet de cultuursector maar wel de investeerders ten goede komt – het is een interessante fiscale achterpoort voor (internationale) bedrijven om zo weinig mogelijk belastingen te betalen. In de filmsector is al gebleken dat er gretig misbruik van wordt gemaakt.
Sowieso moet het wetsontwerp nog langs de Raad van State, het parlement en Europa. Wordt met andere woorden vervolgd.
