Call for participants: CATE basic circus trainer course

CATE (Circus Adult Training Europe) is a 12-day-long basic circus trainer course divided into two 6-day modules. It is addressed to young people without employment in order to give them job opportunities in the field of youth activities in youth circuses and elsewhere in the field of youth work.
The course supports people with previous experience from circus but in the need of a pedagogical, circus-related training to increase their skills. The course curriculum was designed during a previous project by a European expert trainers team. The pilot course is funded by Erasmus+ -program and it is part of the PEYC (Professionalizing European Youth Circuses) project of 9 EYCO country members.
Programme
The training course consists of two 6-day intensive sessions:
First session: The learner is offered a range of circus activities, teaching approaches and exercises and learning by doing
Second session: The learner will lead different parts of a circus session, together with and for their classmates, demonstrating previously acquired skills. The tutors and the learners will give feedback to improve the teaching skills.
Between the two parts the participants are expected to make a practical stage in a circus school.
Objectives
Gaining basic level of technical and artistic skills in the four circus disciplines (acrobatics, balancing, juggling, aerials)
Ability to teach in a creative way and to stimulate creativity
Ability to create and manage group dynamics and take care of the physical & emotional safety of the group and the individual
Ability to teach circus at a basic level to a heterogeneous group
Ability to self-evaluate and rationalise progression
Requirements for participants
From 18 to 30 years old
Intermediate or fluent in English (the course is taught in English)
Interested in teaching circus
Has a desire to bring both skills and enjoyment of learning to participants
Has basic skills in most circus disciplines
When and where?
The first part of the course will be held in Valladolid (SP) between August 30th and September 6th 2015.
The second part will be held in Edinburgh (UK) from 2nd to 9th of March 2016.
The dates include travelling dates.
Participant fee
100e for the whole 12-day-course incl. all meals, accommodation and travel (up to 280 e for the first part in Spain and 200e e for the 2nd part in UK). For unemployed youth, a discount can be offered.
