The Circus Dialogues, het onderzoeksproject van Bauke Lievens, Quintijn Ketels en Sebastian Kann, is op zoek naar 8 circusartiesten die in januari 2020 mee willen denken & werken rond circus. De onderzoeksvraag luidt: ‘How is your circus practice also a thinking practice?’
De open call is in het Engels opgesteld en gaat als volgt:
The Circus Dialogues is a research project in contemporary circus at KASK School of Arts Ghent. We’re committed to defending the circus as a field in which experimental thinking is already happening and can continue to happen.
In January 2020, we will organise a paid research week at KASK for 8 circus makers. During this week, we will make a shared studio space available in which, together or separately, the selected participants will get to work on the following question: how is your circus practice also a thinking practice?
The research week will run parallel to a symposium at Vooruit around circus as a thinking practice. On the last day of the symposium, we will ask the artists selected for studio time to share their preliminary findings in a simple form of maximum 30 minutes. In addition to the overarching notion of embodied thinking, we are curious about hearing: how do you work? How does re-framing circus as thinking shift the way you work? How does this effect the way your work ‘works?’ And how does your work try to think beyond the norm and into experiment?
We are looking for circus makers with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience. We provide food and lodging, cover your travel costs to Ghent (up to a max. of 180€), and provide a fee of 500€ per artist for the research week.
Interested? Please send us your proposal for the research week (max. 1 page), together with your CV, motivation letter, and basic technical rider to [email protected]. Please note that the only basic rigging is possible at KASK (4,5m). If you have any questions about the space, please contact Quintijn Ketels at [email protected] prior to your application. Deadline for applications: 8/7/2019.
Dates research week: 10-17/01/2020
