De opkomst van het Vlaamse circus zorgt voor een onstuitbare golf aan nieuwbakken circusartiesten en -lesgevers, maar in de luwte heeft nog een ander beroep het leven gezien: de circustechnicus! Relevante vacatures zijn er vooralsnog niet te vinden in de WIS-computer van de VDAB, maar voor wie deze carrièrezet overweegt zou een jobadvertentie er als volgt uit kunnen zien.
U heeft een encyclopedische kennis van alle bestaande belichtings- en geluidsmaterialen, een onfeilbaar gevoel voor timing en een scherp oog voor detail. U kunt op uw eentje een circustent opbouwen en weer afbreken. U spreekt minstens zeven talen vloeiend, maar indien nodig leidt u door middel van gebarentaal een groep Russische theatertechnici met vaste hand. U kunt een complex lichtplan improviseren met behulp van vier zaklampen en een tuinkaars. U heeft een oplossing voor alle problemen, van gescheurde kostuumbroek over vergeten decorstuk tot ontsnapte zeeleeuw. U bezit een rijbewijs voor zware vracht, tourbus, tractor, vorkheftruck en huifkar. U kent het principe van horen, zien en zwijgen over wat er op tournee is gebeurd. U blijft de circusvoorstelling die u al ontelbare keren heeft gezien geweldig vinden. U heeft voldoende aan anderhalf uur slaap per nacht, een ochtendhumeur is u vreemd. U bent dermate flexibel dat u al eens met de contorsioniste van het gezelschap verward wordt. U bent sympathiek, vlot in de omgang en u blijft lachen om dezelfde flauwe mopjes van dezelfde vervelende circusartiesten.
Als diezelfde artiesten u bij het eindapplaus vergeten te bedanken, glimlacht u eens meewarig, want rancune is u vreemd. De gedachte dat u een onmisbare held van het circus bent is voor u voldoende. En tot slot: uw naam is Rinus Samyn.
