En toen lag alles stil. Circusmensen tijdens W.O.II
Gepost op 23 juni 2014 Toen in de zomer van 1914 de Eerste Wereldoorlog uitbrak, viel het circus- en kermisleven volledig stil. Het reizen konden onze circusuitbaters vergeten. Elk van hen zocht op zijn manier naar een middel om te overleven. Veel circusartiesten vonden moeilijk werk. Degenen die in het land waren gebleven zagen zich genoodzaakt een nevenactiviteit te zoeken. Tussendoor konden ze al eens optreden in variété- of cinemazalen. Het enige positieve in die droeve oorlogstijd was dat er veel tijd overbleef om te oefenen of nieuwe nummers uit te proberen. Master in de Circusgeschiedenis André De Poorter ging grasduinen in het leven van enkele circusfamilies in die moeilijke oorlogsjaren.
