Onze maatschappij handelt veel collectief. Collectieve verontwaardiging en een collectieve angstpsychose na de aanslagen in Parijs (het bezoek aan culturele evenementen in Parijs zou er met 80% gedaald zijn), een collectief feest toen AA Hent (Gent is nu eenmaal de hoofdstad van West-Vlaanderen) kampioen werd, collectief worden er acties georganiseerd voor De Warmste Week/Music for Life van Studio Brussel, collectief verschijnen de onnozele kerstmutsen in het straatbeeld…
Binnen de circuswereld creëren en werken veel circusgezelschappen vanuit een collectieve gedachte. Maar is dat wel oké? Wat zijn de voordelen en de valkuilen? Een collectief wordt in Van Dale gedefinieerd als ‘een (min of meer georganiseerde) groep’. Ik hou wel van die bijvoeging tussen haakjes: min of meer georganiseerde. Het is duidelijk dat er een parfum van anarchie aanwezig is met het voordeel dat iedereen aan bod kan komen in een beslissingsproces, maar met het nadeel dat er veel issues blijven hangen – stemmen is nu eenmaal uit de boze. Onuitgesproken groepsdynamische processen spelen daarbij echter ook mee, want een idee wordt vaak eerst tussen pot en pint besproken wordt met een eventuele ‘sterke’ medestander die het groepsproces mee kan sturen. Een beetje flou, toch?
Mijn gedacht: lang leve de interessante collectieve gedachte (of is dat een utopie?) van gedeeld – ook artistiek – leiderschap. Laat ons alles open bespreken zonder verborgen agenda’s en proberen gezamenlijk tot een conclusie te komen. Lukt dat niet, dan is er een eindverantwoordelijke – hoe je die ook benoemt – die beslist. Maar benoem ook duidelijk wat je onder ‘collectief’ verstaat. Wil een gezelschap als collectief creëren of gaat het verder en wil men in een of andere vorm samenleven?
En dan krijgt mijn mei ’68 ziel terug een warme gloed. Ik zie rondom mij heel wat interessante woonvormen ontstaan van intergenerationele cohousing tot nieuwe communes. Bioboerderijen maken opgang. Jonge mensen denken na over hun mobiliteit. En ik droom er nu al van – ik word soms zo moe van mezelf en mijn agenda – om met mijn circusvrienden in het zuiden van Spanje samen te hokken in een of andere gemeenschap.
En dat is circus voor mij, een warme gemeenschap.
En ik ben ook nog alive and kicking, ik heb nog heel wat dromen hier die ik graag wil vormgeven.
