Eva Kahan, ex-redactrice van dit blad en een van de stuwende krachten achter het Gentse circusatelier Circusplaneet, volgde begin september het ‘Coach de Coach’-weekend, een jaarlijkse bijscholing georganiseerd door het Circuscentrum. Eva, eveneens mama van een felle tweeling, schreef met veel kabaal op de achtergrond dit insiderverslag.
In een circusatelier kan je circusles kan volgen, dat weet iedereen ondertussen wel. En het spreekt ook voor zich dat een heleboel kinderen uit die circuslessen graag hun verworven kunsten tonen aan een publiek. Veel ateliers hebben daarom productiegroepen waarin kinderen, jongeren en soms zelfs volwassenen samen werken aan een circusvoorstelling. Zo’n groep wordt dan begeleid door een… begeleider. Tja, hoe noem je iemand die werkelijk alles moet kunnen? De voorstelling moet namelijk worden gemaakt, geregisseerd en verkocht. Circustechnieken moeten worden aangeleerd. De kinderen moeten worden gemotiveerd en begeleid. Tijdens het spelen moet er iemand zorgen voor licht en geluid, en (ook heel belangrijk!) iemand moet ervoor zorgen dat na het optreden iedereen zijn kegels opruimt en de loges ordentelijk achterlaat…Wel dames en heren, in veel circusateliers (en ik spreek uit ervaring) gebeurt dit allemaal door één en dezelfde persoon! Een soort van supercoach als het ware.
En omdat zelfs supercoaches af en toe nieuwe inspiratie nodig hebben, organiseert het Circuscentrum elk jaar een ‘Coach de Coach’-weekend, waarin begeleiders van productiegroepen elkaar ontmoeten, knowhow kunnen uitwisselen én een ruim aanbod aan bijscholingen of nieuwe invalshoeken aangeboden krijgen.
Dit jaar koos het Circuscentrum voor een samenwerking met de Kopergietery, in Gent dé referentie voor alles want met kinder- en jeugdtheater te maken heeft. Je kan er als kind of jongere niet alleen theaterles volgen, zij maken ook theaterproducties voor kinderen én ze maken theaterproducties mét kinderen. Vooral dat laatste is wel heel interessant voor al wie circusproducties maakt. Circus en theater, toch een beetje broer en zus en toch ook wel verschillend in aanpak, of net niet? Door vier heel verschillende workshops kwamen we een beetje te weten hoe de Kopergietery werkt, wat een aanzet kan zijn tot een toonmoment, hoe een choreografie zou kunnen ontstaan, …
Sandrijn Helsen gaf een sessie rond theater, sfeer en geluid. Hoe kan je een bepaalde sfeer creëren op het podium, hoe kan geluid dit versterken of misschien juist verpesten? Er werd ook gedanst. Jannie Van Goor vertrok vanuit beweging en maakte op heel korte tijd een hele choreografie met de groep. Griet Dobbelaere en Dominique Collet dompelden ons onder in een theaterbad: op een stevig tempo deelden zij hun werkmethodiek met ons, van opwarming tot toonmomenten tot nabesprekingen. En tot slot kwam Bram Dobbelaere (niet verbonden aan de Kopergietery, maar goed gekend onder het circusvolk) het nog allemaal net iets concreter maken door ons een inkijk te bieden op het creatieproces van zijn compagnie Ea Eo.
Na een heel weekend bijtanken kunnen alle coaches weer met fris hoofd aan de slag met hun productiegroepen. Nieuwe methodieken kunnen worden ontwikkeld en getest, de circusproducties zullen er alleen maar nog diverser en nog beter van worden!
