Ze zijn momenteel de hype op alle circusfestivals waar ze met hun voorstelling ‘Extrêmités’ passeren. Het is dan ook niet niks wat de drie acrobaten van Cirque Inextremiste doen: met houten planken en een serie gasflessen bouwen ze de meest ongelooflijke stellages, proberen met vallen en opstaan elkaar, planken en flessen in evenwicht te houden. Maar wat evenzeer bijdraagt tot de hype: een van de drie acrobaten zit in een rolstoel. En ja daar mag al eens mee gelachen worden. Deze zomer te zien op het Jeugdcircusfestival en MiramirO.
Een golfplaten decortje met een reeks gasflessen op enkele houten schaffen, als een rayon in een aftandse doe-het-zelfzaak. Niets doet bij aanvang vermoeden dat dit het toneel wordt van een van de meest ‘explosieve’ circusvoorstellingen die we in jaren zagen. En dat heeft zeker niet alleen met de nadrukkelijke aanwezigheid van die gasflessen te maken.
Van gasfles naar pisfles
Een acrobaat komt de scène op. Of liever ‘rolt’ de scène op. Het is de 28-jarige Rémi Lecocqdie zeven jaar geleden een ongeluk kreeg tijdens een stunt en sindsdien verlamd is aan zijn benen. Gekluisterd aan een rolstoel houdt die belemmering en het statuut van ‘hulpbehoevende’ hem echter niet tegen. Al lijkt aanvankelijk van wel wanneer hij uit zijn rolstoel dondert en zijn plastiek pisfles (en de inhoud ervan) op de grond belandt.
Niet dat dit de andere twee acrobaten (Yann Ecauvre en Sylvain Briany-Colin) schijnt te deren. Zij zien hem letterlijk als de pispaal van dienst en schakelen hem in als object in hun stellagebouw. Ze zetten hem met rolstoel en al op een gasfles en laten hem balancerend aan zijn lot over. Met sardonisch genoegen maken ze hem tot voorwerp van hun spot en voor wie denkt zich in de rol van passieve toeschouwer te kunnen nestelen, think again!
Wanneer ze in hun pesterij de schoen van verlamde Lecocq het publiek in gooien, is de daad van verzet of toestemmen aan ons. Gehandicapte, mindervalide, anders valide, we moeten sowieso al op onze woorden letten, maar wat doen we (of niet) binnen de realiteit van het theater (zeker als ook Lecocq niet vies blijkt van enige sabotage)? Cirque Inextremiste doorbreekt dat taboe.
De juiste balans
Maar meer nog dan een verhaal van allen tegen één, is ‘Extrêmités’ een toonbeeld van de kracht van samenwerken. Van eendracht die macht maakt en schoonheid baart. Van ‘eenvoudige’ bascule met de gasfles als ondersteun voor de plank wordt de moeilijkheidsgraad gradueel opgedreven.
Constructies van meters hoog, bidons-plank-bidons-plank-bidons plus acrobaten, als een wankel broodje beleg. Het is millimeterwerk. Aan weerszijden van de plank houden de acrobaten elkaar in evenwicht, schuifelen naar elkaar toe om de plank in evenwicht te houden. Het gewicht van het lichaam wordt afgemeten aan het gewicht van de gasflessen. De druk van een vinger op de plank kan het verschil maken. Dit vergt vertrouwen, blikken van verstandhouding en zweet delen, samen doen, falen en weer opstaan keer op keer opnieuw. Alles in functie van dat ene punt: de ultieme balans.
Het is een precair gegeven en een langdurige zoektocht. Het vinden van de juiste balans. Yann Ecauvre had al jaren een eigen act met gasbidons en trampoline, tot hij in 2010 in diverse formaties begon te zoeken naar een ander collectief evenwicht (check het filmpje op www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3z0jwFd1Q8). Dat evenwicht vond hij in Sylvain Briany-Colin, bijnaam Basco (gezien zijn discipline van bascule) en in Rémi Lecocq, die na zijn ongeluk via omzwervingen in de muziek met deze voorstelling terug kwam bij zijn grote liefde, de acrobatie.
Tussen plank, gasfles en het menselijk lichaam. Bij ‘Extrêmités’ maakt een last meer of minder het verschil tussen in evenwicht zijn of uit balans geraken. Je omgeving – de omstandigheden en de personen rondom je – werken daaraan mee (of werken tegen). Dat is op de circusvloer niet anders dan in het leven.
Het is de diepere filosofische ondertoon van ‘Extrêmités’, een spektakel dat echter vooral veel ruimte laat voor de lach. Een beetje een foute lach bij momenten, dat wel, maar daarom net des te leuker.
