Een redactielid van Circusmagazine laat zijn of haar licht schijnen op de wonderlijke (circus)wereld. Klom deze keer in de pen: Liv Laveyne.
Het komt als de wind die je voelt en de regen en die kleffe oorwurm van Marco Borsato die zich in je lijf nestelt. Afscheid nemen bestaat niet, en al zeker niet in deze vreemde afgelopen tijd. Een tijd van anderhalve meter afstand, van geen knuffel voor de troost, geen koffietafel bij de rouw, geen applaus na de groet, geen babbel achteraf, geen belofte tot gauw.
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet. Toch niet van de kunst. Artiesten zoeken alternatieven, zalen een virtuele ruimte, publiek een andere weg. Of festivals vinden een tweede leven, zoals het door een stadsbestuur gefnuikt Wintervuur dat transformeert tot het MAD festival. Omdat altijd wel iemand een beetje goed gek moet zijn. Zoals Dré Demet, iemand die blijft plannen maken en dromen. Zoals van een plek waar publiek en artiesten samen in openlucht een Cirkelgewelf optrekken met de sterrenhemel als oneindig plafond. Afscheid nemen bestaat niet, wat anders zijn sterren immers dan uitgedoofde hemellichamen die we niettemin nog kunnen zien?
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet. Ook niet van Julie Descamps die, met haar energieke aanpak, oog voor talent, oor voor de noden van artiesten en hart voor circus, na twaalf jaar het Circuscentrum verlaat en nu werkt voor een fijn theaterhuis in het Gentse. Afscheid nemen bestaat niet. Ook niet voor Circuscentrum dat niet langer zelf residenties of festivals zal organiseren, maar sinds dit jaar officieel omgevormd is tot steunpunt om wat dan heet ‘beleidsrelevant onderzoek te voeren en de katalysator te zijn tussen veld en beleid’. Mag met deze definitie bij mij het beeld opdoemen van een mistige ochtendfile alwaar de volgende gedachte opspeelt: ‘hopelijk heeft deze Audi een goede katalysator’, en vermag ik liever te denken aan steunpunt als zijnde ‘dat punt waarop iets kan steunen’ zoals een main-à-main acrobaat op zijn partner.
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet. Mensen vervellen, organisaties veranderen en vinden een tweede adem. Letterlijk zoals circusartiest Jesse Huygh die al vele jaren aan mucoviscidose lijdt en voor wie Chinese paal een zware fysieke inspanning vereist. Maar afscheid bestaat niet, al zeker niet wat de zin om te blijven spelen betreft. Niet minimum anderhalve meter afstand maar maximum twee meter is de afstand die Jesse nog kan nemen van zijn zuurstofapparaat. In zijn circuspartner Rocio vond hij zijn steunpunt door een act te bedenken waarbij ze samen rond de Chinese paal circuleren. Rocio rond Jesse, Jesse rond de paal, zoals de maan rond de aarde rond de zon. En hopelijk vele ziekenhuizen en rusthuizen als satellietspeelplekken want dat is de ambitie.
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet. Omdat Johnny Ronaldo’s leven leest als een verhaal en dan overstijgen de feiten de fictie en die is oneindig. En lijkt die weg op te houden dan is er wel een brug. Zoals in Mechelen waar de oude spoorwegbrug werd omgedoopt tot de Johnny Ronaldobrug om zo reizigers naar vele nieuwe avonturen te leiden.
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet; daarvoor zijn we gelukkig te koppig en te hoopvol. Daarvoor is er voor elk einde een nieuw verhaal. Voor elke bobbel op de baan een kriebel in de buik. Voor elke laatste zucht een tweede adem. Voor elke weg die eindigt een brug.
Afscheid nemen bestaat niet.

Het gaat goed.
Het gaat jullie goed.
