Een eeuwenoude circuskunst ontsluierd, een ingewikkelde titel in je hoofd gedramd
Sanja Kosonen en Elice Abonce Muhonen zijn twee meesterlijke entertainers die met hun circusvoorstelling Capilotractées de techniek van het “haar-hangen” in een hedendaags licht plaatsen. Voor velen is die techniek onbekend, wat in het voordeel speelt van de twee Finse acrobaten. Ze grijpen met deze voorstelling de kans om aan het publiek te tonen hoe divers de mogelijkheden met die eeuwenoude circuskunst zijn. Zelfs wanneer het lijkt alsof alle trucjes de revue gepasseerd zijn, en er een bordje verschijnt met het opschrift “AND NOW WHAT?”, schudden ze toch weer iets nieuws uit hun mouw. Precies daarin ligt de kracht van de voorstelling. Steeds opnieuw verbaasd worden. Steeds een stapje verder zetten in de wedijver met de zwaartekracht. En dit telkens met dezelfde lichtvoetigheid als de zwevende dames zelf.
Die kenmerkende luchtigheid is voornamelijk te danken aan hun dubbelzinnige verhouding met illusie. Sanja en Elice zingen een Nederlands liedje, maar hun anderstalige accent is haast opzettelijk en met klem aanwezig. Ook hangen ze met hun volle lichaamsgewicht aan hun haar zonder enige uitdrukking van pijn, maar wanneer Sanja de haren van Elice losmaakt en kamt, schreeuwt ze het plots uit. Of die scène waarbij Sanja de omgekeerde vrouw komisch ontmaskert door haar rok op te heffen en haar voeten zichtbaar te maken. Het zijn maar enkele voorbeelden van de manier waarop de twee vrouwen hun eigen wereld steeds onttoveren. Op sommige momenten is dat komisch, op andere momenten besef je dat de twee vrouwen enorme pijnen moeten doorstaan om de illusie van gewichtloosheid op te wekken. De rommelige setting waarin het geheel plaats vindt draagt bij aan dat effect en geeft een zekere warmte en charme. Hier staat een spiegel, daar ligt een pruik, de opgezette vogel kijkt toe hoe vliegen voor hem ooit moeiteloos en minder pijnlijk was.
Over het algemeen is Capilotractées een voorstelling van ontleding. In de eerste plaats ontleden de twee vrouwen de techniek van het “haar-hangen”. Een sleutelmoment in de voorstelling is de scene waarin Elice als een schooljuf toont hoe de metalen ring nu precies in haar haardos bevestigd is. Het stapsgewijze proces waarmee de artiesten die specifieke techniek uitpluizen doet misschien wat fragmentarisch aan, maar het zorgt voor een soort stuwende kracht waardoor de voorstelling nooit gaat vervelen. Daarnaast ontleden Sanja en Elice een illusie, meer bepaald die van gewichtloosheid. De krakkemikkigheid van het toneel en de clowneske lichaamsstijl van de twee vrouwen verraadt dat ze zichzelf hierin niet volledig serieus nemen. Op die manier primeert een soort hilarische absurditeit op de begoocheling van het publiek. De illusie is met andere woorden nooit echt compleet, intentioneel welteverstaan. De platenspeler blijkt maar een laptop, het bonte kapsel blijkt maar een pruik, de mooie glimlach blijkt maar een gevolg van het samentrekken van de hoofdhuid.
