Ik heb geen inspiratie om te schrijven. Ik ben al verschillende malen begonnen en telkens vind ik het niet ok. De letters op de deleteknop van mijn computer vervagen van het vele drukken, het woord ‘delete’ staat al in spiegelschrift op mijn vingertop geprent en ergens is het cynisch dat op dezelfde knop van de computer het woord ‘pause’ staat. En er is die verschrikkelijke deadline, de teksten moeten naar de lay-out.
Mijn gedachten schieten alle kanten op en dan denk ik dat het als artiest een hel moet zijn om goede ideeën, een mooi concept te hebben en in het creatieproces zonder inspiratie te vallen om ze uit te werken met de hete adem van de première in de nek. Hoe geraak je daar in godsnaam uit? Ik weet het niet.
(Co)producenten kijken vol verwachting uit naar de première, vragen telkens hoe het loopt, programmatoren zijn op jacht naar een goede voorstelling, de druk stijgt en daardoor wordt het nog moeilijker om vrij te kunnen werken.
Afschaffen premières, denk ik dan. Ik weet het wel, dat kan niet, maar er wordt te veel belang aan gehecht. Het is nooit de beste voorstelling en toch maakt of kraakt ze het succes ervan. De vijfde speeldatum is meestal veel beter dan de première. Maar weinig programmatoren gaan een tweede maal een voorstelling zien. Journalisten schrijven meestal over een première.
En als een voorstelling niet af is, kan ze misschien toch beter uitgesteld worden, wat helemaal niet evident is.
Het woord deadline heeft ook een donkere bijklank als het over circus gaat. Raar woord toch, deadline. En die is er inderdaad. Circus is waarschijnlijk de enige kunstvorm die zich steeds zo extreem op de deadline, letterlijk de lijn van de dood, afspeelt. Eén verkeerde inschatting, één fout en de gevolgen kunnen erg groot zijn. Circus is misschien daarom zo fascinerend, doodsdrift en levensdrift komen er samen, er wordt gespeeld met onze fragiele eindigheid. Zowel artiesten als het publiek houden er van.
Journalisten leven dagelijks met een deadline. Dat moet erg stresserend zijn. Het Circuscentrum diende samen met negen Europese partners het Europees project ‘Unpack the Arts’ in. De bedoeling ervan is om cultuurjournalisten een circusreferentiekader aan te bieden. Via workshops en het programma op internationale festivals krijgen ze een baxter van circusvoorstellingen waarover ze kunnen publiceren en makkelijker hun deadline halen als ze over circus schrijven. Het project werd goedgekeurd en we zijn er fier op. Nu moeten we het waarmaken met steeds weer een deadline.
Ik denk nu ook aan de redactie van het CircusMagazine. Keer op keer is er de uitdaging om opnieuw een boeiend nummer samen te stellen. Nu lijkt me dat niet zo evident meer. Ik vraag me heimelijk af ik misschien toch zou durven suggereren het CircusMagazine later te laten drukken totdat ik terug inspiratie heb voor deze Circoscoop?
